How Does Kybella Work?

Your dermatologist might recommend that you consider treatment with Kybella if you're dissatisfied with the look of a double chin. Kybella has earned FDA approval as an alternative to more invasive options like surgery. The treatment itself consists of a series of injections into the submental fat under the chin. Kybella works by introducing high concentrations of a bioidentical substance called deoxycholic acid. In the body, it's naturally produced to absorb fat. When it's injected locally, the substance breaks down the fat cells.

Once fat cells are destroyed, the body processes them for natural elimination. Fat cells can't come back, and so your results should be long-lasting provided you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Most people need about 12 to 20 injections per treatment session, with about two to three total visits to the dermatologist.
